13f is out and Berkshire bought a ginormous amount of $googl…surprising since the equity had more than doubled from the April 25 low and with massive AI spending, free cash flow is a thing of the past. Buying Delta into an energy crisis is another head-scratcher

It's interesting. Google is understandable. But for Delta, I thought they wouldn't move into the airline industry anymore after realizing how cyclical the industry is.

As I said above in a reply to Robert Stilson, Delta's owning their own oil refinery, which allows them to secure access to jet fuel, has to be one of the main reasons for the purchase.

Oh, that's insightful. Thanks for the heads-up! I didn't really know that, but it might be one of the reasons.

Hi Rex - Very interesting about the oil refinery! I've never really looked into Delta and had no idea about that.

I can't help but think that Delta's owning their own oil refinery, which allows them to secure access to jet fuel, has to be one of the main reasons for the purchase.

I always learn from the weekly Beat! Where did you get the Dairy Queen numbers from?

Hi Frank - Thanks! The DQ numbers come from this Reuters article/interview with CEO Troy Bader from the weekend of the annual meeting. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/dairy-queen-pauses-middle-east-growth-plans-takes-ai-drive-thrus-2026-05-04/
