what's your estimate of how much in capital gains taxes Berkshire has to pay on those sales?

I think the Barron’s estimate of $15 billion is as good as any. We don’t have the exact cost basis and sale prices for the Apple shares, but the vast majority of the realized price is going to be a capital gain.

Agreed. That seems to be a big part of Buffett’s decision to cut back on Apple. Even though I’m not big on selling, I can understand why he might not want 45+% of the portfolio in one stock.
