Enjoy your thorough work, thanks. There is absolutely no question at all for anyone who is familiar with Buffett that he would ever speak like that in public about a company if Ted or Todd had bought it. Zero question. I'd virtually bet my life on it. As for Berkshires earnings on cash now being a big reward, isn't it earning less than it was at 4 basis points? In real terms which is all that matters? This is a link to Bloomstran describing what Buffett is probably seeing in PARA. https://business.columbia.edu/sites/default/files-efs/imce-uploads/Graham%20Doddsville%20Fall%202022%20Issue%2046_0.pdf
Thanks! Much appreciated. Yep, agreed on Paramount. I had always assumed it was Ted or Todd, but I think Buffett's comments seal it as his own investment. I really enjoyed that Bloomstran interview with G&D and you're right that the case for Paramount that he laid out is probably pretty similar to Buffet's own thinking (or at least what he was thinking when he built the position in 2022). It's interesting that Paramount was the only stock Berkshire bought in every quarter of 2022, but now Buffett seems to have recently soured on it.
Yeah I don't think he's recently soured on it based on his comments, everything he said he was well aware of at time of purchase. Is there another reason you think he may have recently soured?
I hope he hasn't -- I'm in the Bloomstran camp re: Paramount. But I took his response to Becky Quick's question ("You gave a whole lot of reasons why not to buy Paramount. Why did you buy it?" Buffett: "Well, we'll see what happens.") as an ominous sign that he's selling. I hope I'm wrong, though.
Fair yep, I may be too optimistic but I took it to mean "well, wait and see what happens" as in, you just watch Becky... But safer to view it as you have!
